M.D. Jorge Solís

Founding member of ATRIA Clinic, director of the Non Invasive Cardiology area and Valvular Disease Unit at University Hospital Doce de Octubre of Madrid.

He completed his training in echocardiography at Massachusetts General Hospital (Boston, Harvard Medical School. 2006-2010).

He has developed much of his extensive experience in cardiovascular research, focusing on cardiovascular imaging and valvular pathology. He obtained the Degree of Doctor with the qualification of Cum Laude and was extraordinary prize in his thesis on valvular diseases.

 

National academic training

He graduated in Medicine from the Universidad Complutense de Madrid, where he specialised in Cardiology. He obtained the Degree of Doctor with Cum Laude qualification and extraordinary award from the Universidad CEU San Pablo (Madrid) ‘Functional Mitral Insufficiency: Imbalance between Geometry and Mitral Closure Forces’ (2017).

International academic training

He continued his professional career in the United States, developing his extensive experience in cardiovascular research, focusing from the beginning on cardiovascular imaging and valvular pathology. After his stay in the experimental surgery laboratory at the University of Montana, under the supervision of Dr. Carlos G. Durán, he continued his training for four years in the echocardiography laboratory at the Massachusetts General Hospital, Harvard Medical School in Boston. During this period, he led the development of three-dimensional echocardiography and new therapies in valvular heart disease.

International recognition

He was nominated for the Young Investigators Awards by the American Heart Association and the American Society of Echocardiography (2007 and 2008) for his achievements in the field of valvular heart disease.

R&D

He is the principal investigator of the PROMESA study aimed at analysing mitral valve prolapse. His group managed to establish the genetic basis of this pathology and his results were published in the journals ‘Nature’, ‘Nature Genetic’ and ‘Nature Cardiovascular Review’. In the field of cardiovascular prevention, his line of research focuses on pre-eclampsia as a marker of cardiovascular damage, and he is the principal investigator of a project funded by the Carlos III Institute.

Teaching and Publications

He is also a collaborating professor at the Universidad Complutense de Madrid. His dedication and interest in research has been reflected in more than 50 scientific articles published in national and international medical journals. He is also the author of several books related to his speciality, including his popular book ‘La salud de tu Corazón’ (The health of your heart), following his vocation to educate patients about cardiovascular health problems, and he is also a regular contributor to the media.
